The idea of introducing a Rail Freight distribution division of the Fat Controller’s railway was inspired
by the number of companies which currently run on the UK Rail Network. It allows
us to write some stories which can be set outside of Sodor without much pomp or circumstance, and allows us the opportunity
to explore more modern means of transportation, which deviates somewhat from the traditional steam locomotive stories which
the Railway Series is so closely tied to.
With the exception of Samarkland, the NW Freight division is comprised of five modern Diesel locomotives –
two Class 66s and three Class 60s.
