Why build a community site?
The Sodor Island Community Site was set up to mark the beginning of our
fifth year online as a Forum and Fansite. We were the first successful unofficial Thomas the Tank Engine fan forum
to be established for older fans of the series to relive happy memories of their childhood, back in 2002, and have carried
on to present with a stronghold membership of several hundred members. As well as this, we have also established and
maintained the most successful unofficial Thomas and Friends fansite, for both TV series and Railway Series
information.
With this site, we'll be providing what is essentially a guide to all
things that have made Sodor Island successful - from the background knowledge of our fan-fiction, media and other
projects, to our involvement in trying to encourage the rights owners to improve their output, as well as doing the similar
task of encouraging the rights owners to put the Awdry family's Railway Series books back into a full print run.
You'll be able to read about our history as a community, and all other
aspects of what it means to be a Sodor Island Forum member, as well as the impact that the community has had on the world
of Thomas the Tank Engine!
