We've had a member on TV, we've helped campaign for the Railway Series and made our voice heard with the TV Producers...!
Probably the most important campaign we're behind at the minute
The Get Thomas Back on Track campaign was started by Christopher
Awdry as a means of getting the entire Railway Series back in print, following their discontinuation in 1997 by Egmont Books,
who currently hold the liscence to print all material concening Thomas the Tank Engine, from all Railway Series related work
to the TV series tie-in books.
Christopher Awdry has led the campaign by asking all those interested to sign
a petition to lobby Egmont Books and Hit Entertainment, in order to make them see that there is
a demand for the books to be returned to print. As well as being previously downloadable on their website, Christopher
has made the petition sheets available at various book signings and appearances
at Heritage Railways up and down the United Kingdom.
The Sodor Island Forums were made aware of the campaign in
2005 following a failed meeting between Christopher Awdry and Egmont books, by his wife Diana, who was then a member.
With the members each feeling strongly enough about the homage that should be paid to books that began it all, strong support
was found, and we are still supporting the cause to get the books back into a full print run.
It would be a golden opportunity to allow Thomas to get back to his
roots, as well as expose a new generation of fans to the wonderful stories that the Reverand Awdry wrote all those years ago.
Not only that, but it would also be in the interests of those who were unable to complete their collections first time around, without
having to rely on rare high priced books put up by E-bay traders for a profit.
A forgotten classic that needs to be honoured!
"TUGS has my soul" - David Mitton
TUGS is an amazing series and fondly remembered by nearly all who
have watched the 13 episodes, and also by those who made it too!
Carried on over four consecutive forums - Star Tugs Pier (1), Clearwater
Forums, Star Tugs Pier (2) and now in it's new home at Sodor Island Forums, the TUGS DVD Campaign
has raged on for nearly 2 years now. The idea for the campaign was devised by Jaquin, after a suggestion by the TUGS
Art Director - Chris Tulloch, who had joined up to the original forum, obviously still with an enthusiasm for the show after
nearly 20 years following its making. However, after all that time, the ownership of the rights, to Chris at least,
is sketchy and proves a real difficulty in progressing the DVD Campaign further. With the collapse of both parent companies
TVS and Clearwater Features following the making of the series, the rights ownership has gone astray and obscurity has befallen
the poor Tugs!
So at the moment, the DVD Campaign remains a poll set up on Sodor Island Forum
to judge demand, prior to petitioning and lobbying the rights owner to put out a DVD of the series at some point in the future.
We recently came into contact with David Mitton, and have received correspondance, but due to work commitments on a new project,
we could be waiting a while before we hear anything further about it.
