LOEY MACHAN
Not involved in the making of the movie itself, but SiF member Loey Machan
has come up with some designs of Lady, which show how the engine could look with adjustments, and how she did in
the movie itself.
In Loey's own words...
"I wanted to try and draw Lady as a real engine and see what the result was.
Her dimensions were dictated by her buffers, which would need to be at the same
height as other British rolling stock - from there I came up with an outline for her.
In order to keep the fine lines of the full-size prop and eliminate bucking I
lengthened the wheelbase and made her into an 0-6-0. In the film her boiler is wider than the smokebox, which is a bit unusual,
so I expanded that extra diameter into a saddle-tank similar to a Quarry Hunslet. I also fitted her with the other bits and
bobs you'd see on a steam engine and pieced together a possible backhead arrangement for her.
The Front, Back and Backhead diagrams are all valid for the
0-4-0 version as well as the 0-6-0 btw. Much of the backhead is based on what we see in the film - the regulator
and reverser are seen in the film in these positions, and a pair of gauge glasses are just in sight ever now and then - also
when Lilly creates a new supply of Gold Dust a shot looking over Lady's cab shows that Lady does indeed have seats fitted.
I added the other bits based on necessity (pressure gauges etc) and theory (since her lights are electric I reckon Lady has
a dynamo hidden under the curved casing on the bunker)"
